What is a nomadic existence? A sign of rootlessness or of independence? What if a nomadic way of life has been imposed from outside? Which of today’s catastrophes and which of the worries afflicting individuals can still be overcome from the sunny side of the sofa? Is reclining peaceable or escapist? For two evenings we – four older dancers and four up-and-coming young academics – will be presenting the results, both individual and collective, of our interdisciplinary, transgenerational research project Of Wanderers and Ponderers in the Foyer of the Schauspielhaus in Wuppertal. Choreography will be as important an approach here as narrative. With our performance we will be inviting the audience collectively to rethink thinking.

Judith Kuckart grew up in Schwelm on the edge of the Ruhr area. In 1984 she founded the Skoronel dance theater, an independent professional group. She has been working as a freelance director since 1999. Judith Kuckart's first novel "Wahl der Waffen" was published in 1990. Her books are published by DuMont Verlag, most recently "Kein Sturm, nur Wetter", and have been translated into Polish, Japanese, Russian, Turkish, English and other languages. Her twelfth novel "Die Welt zwischen den Nachrichten" will be published in August 2024, also by DuMont.

A co-production with the Pina Bausch Centre Wuppertal and the Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf with collaboration from the University of Wuppertal. The initial ensemble texts were produced with the support of the Kunststiftung NRW (North Rhine Westphalian Art Foundation). The development of the performance was funded in the program „Neue Stücke – Neue Verbindungen“, 2022, nrw landesbuero tanz  and Burg Hülshoff – Center for Literature (CfL), funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
